Comment on conflict reached 25 battle releated deaths: The non-state conflict between the Supporters of ACN and the Supporters of PDP is first included in UCDP data in 2008. ACN and PDP supporters clashed on several occasions at different locations in the first half of 2008 due to disagreements over the true outcome of elections and which party has the rightful claim to political office. Jointly, these clashes resulted in more than 25 battle-related deaths.

2008 Conflict Archive
Comment on Activity: Clashes took place between the AC and the PDP in 2008, amid continued controversy over the 2007 elections. The clashes in the conflict took place in Adamawa and Kogi state. In both states the outcomes of the 2007 gubernatorial elections were annulled following allegations of electoral fraud and misconduct by contending parties. Clashes erupted in Adamawa state after the nullification of the gubernatorial elections by the state’s election petition tribunal, and in Kogi and Adamawa in connection with the re-run elections held in 2008. Also in the second round, there were mutual allegations of ballot rigging and voter intimidation.
The most deadly clash between AC and PDP occurred in Okene in Kogi where 20 people lost their lives. The clash was ignited by AC supporters when the newly appointed PDP caretaker chairman of the local government was to assume office in what is held to be an AC stronghold.

Comment on Activity: Clashes took place between supporters of the ACN and the PDP in 2011 during the run-up to and aftermath of the elections the same year. Several of the clashes took place during political rallies, and at voting offices during the elections.
Comment on Yearly Battle Related Deaths: The discrepancy between best and high figures is due to several events where the identities of one or both sides could not be confirmed.
