Comment on Activity: In the evening of 11 October 2002 the Nyamwisi forces controlling the town of Mambasa were told to leave the town because MLC and RCD-N were about to move in. The forces took the town on the next day meeting no resistance, so instead of fighting rebel militias the forces of MLC and RCD-N shelled the town. Between 24 and 29 October the worst atrocities were committed and people were killed and in a few cases cannibalized. The summary executions performed by MLC and RCD-N particularly targeted the Nande community in Mambasa and the Pygmies as well as the populations in the villages located on the Mambasa-Beni main road according to a MONUC investigation team.
