SUMMARY

The Palestinian Mujahideen Movement (PMM; Harakat al-Mujahidin al-Filastinia) is a Palestinian Islamist-nationalist armed group founded during the Second Intifada (starting in September 2000) by former Fatah members who opposed the Oslo peace process. The movement seeks the liberation of Palestine through armed resistance against Israel. The group identifies 27 Rajab 1421 AH (25 October 2000) as its founding date, although some secondary sources report 2001 as the year of establishment.

The founder of the group, Omar Attia Abu Sharia, also known as Abu Hafs, led PMM until he was critically injured in a Israeli airstrike in October 2006 and died the following year. Following his death, Assad Abu Sharia became the secretary-general of the group, until he was killed in an Israeli strike in June 2025. Publicly available information does not clearly identify a permanent successor, and the movement's leadership structure after his death remains uncertain.

PMM is based primarily in the Gaza Strip, but is also present in the West Bank. It operates through its armed wing, the Mujahideen Brigades. The group has been allied with Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and has participated in joint military operations against Israel, including the 7 October 2023 attacks. PMM is significantly smaller than Hamas and PIJ, but has remained an active participant in the Gaza conflict.

Palestinian Mujahideen Movement has been involved in the intrastate category of UCDP organized violence.
