SUMMARY

Dignidad por Arauca (Dignity for Arauca) was a paramilitary organization that emerged in the early 2000s and operated primarily in the department of Arauca, a region located in the eastern part of Colombia along the border with Venezuela. As its name suggests, the group positioned itself as a defender of local dignity or regional interests.

Active predominantly between 2007 and 2008, Dignidad por Arauca focused its operations exclusively on civilian targets. The group remained isolated from other paramilitary factions, displaying no interest in participation in the broader networks of armed groups in Colombia. Unlike other paramilitary groups that often engaged with rival factions or state forces, Dignidad por Arauca did not appear to have broader political or military ambitions.

Following this brief period of activity, Dignidad por Arauca disappeared from the public radar. From 2009 onwards, no new attacks or operations attributed to the group have been recorded in Colombia, suggesting its dissolution or retreat from active violence.
