SUMMARY
Viv Ansanm (Living Together, Vivre Ensamble) was a coalition that emerged on 29 February 2024 and integrated the two predominant gang alliances in Haiti. Since its formation, Viv Ansanm significantly reshaped the gang landscape in the country.
Operating primarily in Port-au-Prince, the coalition brought together previously rival factions, notably the G9 and the G-Pep alliances, which unified numerous gangs under a single umbrella. While coalition members maintained their internal hierarchies, different activities and strategies were coordinated through a unified command under the leadership of Jimmy "Barbecue" Chérizier (the head of the G9).
Such a structure allowed for coordinated operations and resource sharing among member gangs, significantly increasing their collective strength and territorial reach. Substantial military capabilities, including access to a wide array of firearms and other weapons, enabled the coalition to conduct large-scale operations against external targets, including government forces, rival groups, and the civilian population.
Viv Ansanm has been involved in the state-based and one-sided UCDP categories of organized violence.
