SUMMARY

The Laimes is an ethnic group of Amerindians who are residing in the Potosi department of southwest Bolivia. The high planes of southwest Bolivia are generally very poor and considered to have lower level of government influence than other parts of the country. It has not been possible to distinguish a leader of the group, likely due to the loose form of organisation of the group.

In the violence in 2000 the Laimes were supported by the Jucumanis. The Jucumanis are a group that also comes from the Potosi region. Former enemies of the Laimes they ganged up at this point in time and supported the Laimes in the struggle against the Qaqachacas.
