SUMMARY

Los Tiguerones was a prison gang in Ecuador with presence in the costal provinces of Manabí and Esmeraldas. The gang became known to the public in the end of 2019. In 2021 it was estimated that they consisted of about 900 prison members.

Los Tiguerones was led by William Jofre Alcívar Bautista alias commander Willy or ‘Negro Willy’ (Black Willy). The group engaged in illicit activities such as narco-trafficking.

Los Tiguerones used to be an ally to Los Choneros, to which they were dependent. In Esmeraldas, they confronted with the rival group Los Gánster Negros, a group which derived from Los Choneros main enemy ‘Los Lagartos’. The assassination of the leader of Los Choneros, Jorge Luis Zambrano, alias Rasquiña, in the end of December 2020, sparked in group fighting over leadership. Los Tiguerones, together with Los Chone Killers, Los Lobos and Los Pipos, turned against Los Choneros and formed structure called New Generation. The group also had connections with Mexican Jalisco Cartel New Generation.

Los Chone Killers was a prison gang in Ecuador with presence mostly in the province of Guayas, specifically in the cities of Guayaquil, Daule and Durán. The group originated from the transnational prison gang Los Ñetas, with roots in Puerto Rico. In Guayas, Los Chone Killers has frequently clashed with the members of ‘the Latin Kings’, another international criminal gang with roots in the United States of America.

Los Chone Killers was led by the brothers Terry Israel Camacho, alias el Trompudo, and Antonio Benjamín Camacho, alias Ben 10. The group engaged in illicit activities such as narco-trafficking, assassinations, robberies and assaults.

Los Chone Killers used to be an ally to Los Choneros and served as their armed link. In Esmeraldas, they confronted with the rival group Los Gánster Negros, a group which derived from Los Choneros main enemy ‘Los Lagartos’. The assassination of the leader of Los Choneros, Jorge Luis Zambrano, alias Rasquiña, in the end of December 2020, sparked in group fighting over leadership. Los Chone Killers, together with Los Tiguerones, Los Lobos and Los Pipos, turned against Los Choneros and formed structure called New Generation.

Los Lobos was a prison gang in Ecuador with presence in several of the country’s prisons in the provinces of Cotopaxi, Tungurahua, Santo Domingo, Guayas, Chimborazo, Azuay and El Oro. They were mostly active in the cities of Latacunga, Cuenca and Machala. The group was the second largest prison gang in Ecuador in 2021 with an estimation of 8000 prison members.

Los Lobos was led by Wilmer Chavarría, alias Pipo, whose son, alias Esteban allegedly, took over leadership. The group engaged in illicit activities, such as narco-trafficking.

Los Lobos used to be an ally to Los Choneros, to which they were dependent. The assassination of the leader of Los Choneros, Jorge Luis Zambrano, alias Rasquiña, in the end of December 2020, sparked in group fighting over leadership. Los Lobos did not agree on the handing over of leadership to alias Fito, who was Rasquiña’s right hand. Los Lobos, together with Los Tiguerones, Los Chone Killers and Los Pipos, turned against Los Choneros and formed structure called New Generation. The group also had connections with Mexican Jalisco Cartel New Generation.
