SUMMARY
Mullah Abdol Rauf Khadim was a former Taleban commander who was imprisoned in Guantanamo in the early 2000s. In 2007, he was transferred back to Afghanistan and quickly resumed his position as senior commander in the Taleban movement. In early 2015 he left the Taleban, instead pledging allegiance to the Islamic State (IS) on 10 January.
Rauf Khadim had his base in Kajaki district, Hilmand province in the southern parts of Afghanistan.
When the Khorasan Province of the Islamic State was announced by IS spokesman al Adnani on 26 January, Rauf Khadim was appointed its deputy governor and his forces formally became part of IS. Mullah Abdol Rauf Khadim was killed in a US drone attack on 9 February 2015.
