SUMMARY

The Military faction (forces of Ekow Dennis and Edward Adjei-Ampofo) was an armed group made up of a few elements of the Ghanaian military, which in 1983 carried out a failed coup-attempt against the Government of Ghana (see Government of Ghana - Military faction (forces of Ekow Dennis and Edward Adjei-Ampofo).

The group was leftist-orientated and opposed the restructuring of Ghanaian politics and economy carried out by the Government of Ghana under Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings and his Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC). It had a troop size of 36 and was led by Lieutenant Colonel Ekow Dennis and Captain Edward Adjei-Ampofo, who was a former armed forces intelligence officer. After the coup-attempt had been put down on 19 June 1983, Lieutenant Colonel Ekow Dennis and Captain Edward Adjei-Ampofo were sentenced to death in absentia. However, neither were executed despite Captain Edward Adjei-Ampofo being apprehended in 1986.
