SUMMARY

RJF (Reform and Jihad Front) was a coalition between a number of insurgent groups in Iraq, namely IAI (Islamic Army in Iraq), the Mujahideen Army and the Mujahideen Shura Council of the Ansar al-Sunna. Though the group is predominately Sunni it strives to be an alternative for all Iraqi, also Shi’ites. The group was formed in May 2007 as a response to what was seen as an attempt to dictate the insurgency by AQI (al Qaeda in Iraq). AQI was behind the formation of ISI (Islamic State in Iraq) in 2006 and RJF founders were keen to decrease the international influence.

The primary goal of the coalition was to bring an end to the occupation by US forces and terminate Iranian influence over officials in the country. These original intentions widened slightly as the group also started to debate international issues, such as the cartoon drawings of the Prophet Muhammad. Since its formation RJF has also formed the Political Council of the Iraqi Resistance (PCIR) together with Hamas-Iraq and the Islamic Front of the Iraqi Resistance (JAMI).

RJF has been involved in the intrastate and non-state categories of UCDP organised violence.

No recorded fatalities for this entity.
