SUMMARY

The Peoples Liberation Front of India (PLFI) formed at least as early as 2008. Its founding members- naxalites who split away from the Communist Party of India-Maoist- created the group with the intent to establish a new democratic republic of India in support of other Maoist organizations. The PLFI operates in Jharkhand and Odisha states (especially in Khunti District, Odisha) where it often engages in one-sided violence in order to tax and intimidate civilians in its territory.

While pursuing its strategy of intimidation the PLFI has executed many civilians. The group often declares to communities that its victims were police collaborators, though the veracity of this claim can almost never be substantiated. This strategy puts the PLFI into direct conflict with Indian security forces as well as other naxal groups (with whom the PLFI competes for taxable territory), and these state-based and non-state rivalries have produced a number of fatalities.

PLFI has been involved in the one-sided category of UCDP organised violence.

No recorded fatalities for this entity.
