SUMMARY

Al-Masry is a Egyptian football team based in Port Said. The al-Masry sporting club was formed in 1920 by Egyptians in Port Said. At that time, there were already a number of other clubs but these had been formed by a number of foreign communities residing in Port Said. The name “al-Masry” means “the Eqyptian” in Arabic. Up until the violent clashes at the Port Said stadium in 2012, the football team played in the Egyptian Premier League. The football team has never won the Egyptian Premier League, but has come on third place a number of times.

The al-Masry club is one of the five clubs with the most fans in Egypt and is the most popular team in Port Said. An ultras fan group was established in 2009 under the name of the Ultras Green Eagles.

Supporters of al-Masry football team has been involved in the non-state category of UCDP organised violence.
