SUMMARY
Burkinabe is a person who originates from Burkina Faso. However, the word is often used in the Ivory Coast when referring to a member of the Mossi ethnic group.
Originating from Burkina Faso, the Mossi ethnic group is today located in several neighboring countries such as Ivory Coast, Ghana or Mali. Well renowned for their craftsmanship, most Mossi people make a living as blacksmiths or woodcarvers. Although scarifications were an important part of Mossi life, the government of Burkina Faso abolished the tradition since the process was considered too brutal. However, many members of the Mossi community still live according to traditional laws and reject westernization.
