SUMMARY

The Buxton gang was a criminal organization based in Buxton, Guyana, active between 2002 and 2008. The gang emerged in the aftermath of a prison break in Georgetown and went on to carry out numerous robberies, kidnappings, and killings across the country. Its campaign of violence ended with the killing of its leader, Rondell "Fineman" Rawlins, by security forces on 28 August 2008.

The gang did not follow a formal political or religious ideology. Although flyers reportedly circulated claiming it fought for the rights of the Afro-Guyanese community, the organization was driven primarily by criminal interests.

Based in Buxton, a village near the Atlantic coast of Guyana, the organization operated along the ethnic fault lines that had long divided Guyanese society, recruiting predominantly among the Afro-Guyanese population that made up the bulk of the village's inhabitants.

The gang was headed by Rondell "Fineman" Rawlins, who was killed by security forces on 28 August 2008, effectively ending the gang's campaign of violence.

The Buxton gang has been involved in the one-sided category of UCDP organized violence.
