SUMMARY

The label Mauritanians is a broad definition of, basically, people living in Mauritania. The group is informally organised and it is fair to say that the group is defined in relation to an out group, i.e. the group Mauritanians is not a group that exists in its own right, and they are dependent on an “other”, an adversary, in order to be considered a group. It should be noted that this group does not represent the country Mauritania, but rather a portion of its inhabitants.

Mauritanians have been involved in the non-state category of UCDP organised violence.
