SUMMARY

Both the Awlad Omran clan (Misseriya) and the Awlad al-Zuid clan (Misseriya) are sub-groups of the large Misseriya (alternative names: Missiriya, al-Misseriya, Misiriyya, Messeria,Misseria) tribe in West Kordofan. The relationship between the two clans prior to the outbreak of conflict in 1993 is unclear. In 1993 a single battle took place when a man from one of the clans sought a bride from the other clan and was rejected, resulting in the death of more than 100 people.

After more than a decade without any larger clashes the Awlad Omran clan (Misseriya) and the Awlad al-Zuid clan (Misseriya) were involved in battles during 2014. The clans clashed several times during the year over disagreements of the ownership of land that was explored for oil.

The non-state conflict between the Awlad Omran clan (Misseriya) and the Awlad al-Zuid clan (Misseriya) was first included in UCDP data in 1993. In late July of that year, clashes between the two groups had resulted in more than 25 battle-related deaths.
