SUMMARY
The Aidagalla subclan of Haber Garhadjis clan (Isaaq) (also known as Aidagalla subclan of Habar Yunis) is part of the Isaaq clan family. The Isaaq, which is one of the five overarching clan families in Somalia, is located in the northern part of the country, in the self-proclaimed Republic of Somaliland.
The Aidagalla subclan of Habar Garhadjis clan (Isaaq) is closely linked to the Forces of Abdurahaman Ahmed Ali ‘Tuur’ and played an important role in the non state conflict that shook Somaliland in the first half of the 1990s. Tuur was the first President of Somaliland, but in the mid-1990s, he revised his position on independence and started to oppose the Somaliland secession. He also received political positions in Mogadishu under the presidency of Muhamed Farah ‘Aideed’ in 1996. (for more information see Forces of Abdurahaman Ahmed Ali ‘Tuur’ in this dataset).
The complexity of the Somali clan system limits the amount of information available on the different subclans. Indeed, there are several perspectives on the lineage charts namely a northern, a central and a southern one. Furthermore the different subclans often disagree about their origins. Genealogy is often passed to the next generation orally and is not kept in any written form. Consequently, there also exist various different spellings for each clan and subclan name.
Aidagalla subclan of Habar Garhadjis clan (Isaaq) has been involved in the non-state category of UCDP organised violence
